EA Says Battlefield 3′s Online Issues ‘Almost Fixed’

Electronic Arts is reporting that after a launch week fraught with problems for all three platforms, it’s finally getting the online issues with Battlefield 3 under control.

Kotaku has the story, and received an email response to their questions about Battlefield’s troubles from EA:

‘We are happy to report that PS3 and PC players experienced server stability all weekend, and Xbox 360 servers are at 95 percent and climbing,’ an Electronic Arts spokesperson said in response to Kotaku’s emailed questions. ‘There were a number of different factors that impacted server connectivity across the platforms. Regardless of the cause or platform, our Online teams are standing by to identify the issues and addressed them as they arise. We will not rest until we’re at 100 percent.’

Punkbuster, anti-cheat software employed in many games including Battlefield 3, was one of the things creating problems for PC players. EA also acknowledged the activation issue players were having with Origin, which it says has since been fixed.

Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 version still seems to be having prooblems, which EA blames on “complex server architecture” over at Microsoft and is working with the company to fix.

EA says that Battlefield did really well, shipping 10 million copies and setting records with the company for most users logged in during peak hours for a single title. So a big part of the problem of EA’s crappy launch has been this giant player response, it says, although as Joystiq wisely pointed out last week, this has been the same situation for most every recent Battlefield title release, and EA has given the exact same excuses.

Don’t expect any free DLC or anything else to make up for a week of broken Battlefield 3, either.

‘We are always looking at ways to generate customer satisfaction and our number one road to their happiness is to get everyone playing smoothly and ensure 100 percent stability,’ they said. ‘We are gamers, too, and we understand that no gift will match the experience of getting in the game and playing with friends.’

Welp. I guess that’s about what we all expected.

I really wish my game would of been broken so I could understand this better. Battlefield 3 has been one of the best released games this year compared to mostly everyone else in terms of bugs. Maybe it’s time you guys should try the pc version.

@Luther A few of the Game Front staffers have been playing the PC version of Battlefield 3. I think most of us have, actually. I have, Ron has (who wrote our review), Ben has, and I think Hornshaw has too, actually.

Not everyone is experiencing these problems, that’s clear. But if you check out the forums, the official BF3 twitter and even some posts on Game Front (like this one: http://www.gamefront.com/are-you-experiencing-battlefield-3-pc-launch-issues-like-crashing-slow-matchmaking/) it’s also clear that quite a few people have had a really rough time.

I think the console versions actually had the smoother launch, comparatively.

Also @Josh I don’t really follow your line of reasoning.
