EA Sports Launches Fight Night Champion on iPhone
Last month, EA gave us the phenomenal iPhone port of NBA Jam 2010, and the only thing it really lacked was a multiplayer mode. It’s only two days into March and now we’ve got an iOS version of Fight Night Champion, and it has multiplayer — but not online. Sigh.
Still, boxing and Fight Night fans will want to put this on their radar. Available for $4.99 in the iTunes App Store, the iPhone Fight Night makes use of the platform’s touch screen by requiring players to basically draw the punches and actions they want. Throw a left by starting your punch on the left side of the screen and going up for the face, down for the body; for a right, do the reverse. Uppercuts start at the bottom and go up. Clinches have you pulling both thumbs down from the upper corners of the screen to the bottom middle. Moving is done by tilting the device.
Fight Night includes a lot of the same boxing greats as the console version and a quick play mode that’ll instantly put them together — my first game allowed Muhammad Ali to dance and sting the crap out of my Mike Tyson — as well as a “Legacy” mode, in which you raise a champion up through the ranks. It also packs a multiplayer mode over Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi.
