Big Bang — Eidos Montreal Reveals Deus Ex: Universe

Trademark filings outed something called Deus Ex: Universe in September, and like Adam Jensen emerging from the shadows, the project is now in the light.

Posting on the Eidos Montreal blog, studio boss David Anfossi just announced that Deus Ex: Universe is an “ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.” The Big Bang for this new system begins with an as yet unnamed PC and next gen console game, which Eidos Montreal says it is already “hard at work” on. Anfossi said it’s still too early to share many details, but he did post the concept art below and an interesting bit of background info:

“[The concept art] shows trans-humanism segregation, which is a backdrop to our vision for the next Deus Ex,” Anfossi states. “It represents a ‘ghetto-city’ voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”

As for the wide Deus Ex: Universe, Anfossi said Eidos Montreal plans “to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before. Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc…”

After Deus Ex: Revolution, I’m thrilled by this announcement and look forward to getting augmented in a Deus Ex: Universe. Just one humble request, Eidos Montreal: get rid of those silly boss fights.
