Job Posting Outs New Epic Games ‘Competitive Online Action Game’

Epic Games, the studio behind Unreal and Gears of War, has begun work on a new game said to be a competitive online action game.

The existence of the game was outed with a job posting on the company’s official website, which seeks Senior Systems Designer for an existing project currently in development, Fortnite, and an unnamed titled listed as a “competitive online action game,” as previously mentioned.

“One of the teams is working on an unannounced competitive online action game that includes player progression, heavy itemization, and a dynamic economy,” reads the job listing. Those who apply for the role will be expected to work on the “biggest most important systems and will have a hand in designing everything from economics and itemization to balancing combat mechanics,” with responsibilities in “general design, balance, rules, interface, etc. and will play an integral role in defining the outcome of the project.”

The game is said to be developed by a small team as it enters pre-production, suggesting that the final build may be several years away from release.

Presumably, the game will be powered by the Unreal Engine 4, which is also being used to power Fortnite and a handful of third-party studios, including Square Enix and Spec Ops: The Line studio, Yager.

We’ll keep you up to date with the game as it’s developed.
