Epic Games Says They’re Not Working on a New Unreal Title

There’s been some speculation of late around the ‘net that Epic Games could be working on a new Unreal game. Outside of Unreal Tournament 3, the last title in the series was Unreal 2. Lots of gamers had their hopes up that when Epic finished work on Gears of War 3 (click to check out our walkthrough), they’d turn their attention back to their iconic franchise and create Unreal 3. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s not going to be the case.

In an interview with Forbes, Epic President Mike Capps had this to say about Unreal:

Unreal and Unreal Tournament continue to have a huge influence on the studio here, even though we’re not currently working on an Unreal IP project.

So, it looks like there’s no Unreal title in the works. That actually bums me out a little bit, as Unreal is one of the titles that longtime PC gamers spent lots of hours on in the past. It’s also the game that made the whole Gears of War series possible. Still, it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility that a new Unreal title could appear on the horizon in the future. Let’s just hope that Epic decides to bring it to life sooner rather than later.

I’m ok with this. I mean, that type of game is dead. Gears is an evolution of unreal. In fact, MOST multiplayer shooting games are an evolution of Unreal at some point or another.

wait.. gears of war 2 and 3 are for consoles… what games are the pc going to get then? what happens to make something unreal? what happens unreal engine modding and map making? They’ve kind of alienated the pc community if they are getting rid of all that as well. Sorry to say that gears is not an evolution of UT. They are completely different games. You don’t need cover in UT because youre dead before you get to it…

Gears is NOT an evolution from UT3. Sorry, I played gears on the pc and on xbox and it sux compared to UT3. I personally dont think they need to stress about coming up with a new UT title yet. UT3 is fast with all the eye candy included. To me, it’s one of those LAN party titles that is going to stand the test of time. Sorry I can’t say the same for gears.

I’m good… I still haven’t had enough of UT3. I really like that type of game, crazy, fast, always movin and shooting.
