Epic: If You Shared Gears of War 3 Spoiler Videos, You Might Be Banned
Epic Games is not happy with gamers who shared footage of the Gears of War 3 campaign that leaked onto YouTube not too long ago — and people who shared it might end up banned from the game, says the company.
‘We’re extremely diligent about getting that stuff taken down and issued a call to fans to not perpetuate it… and just keeping track of those who do,’ Fergusson said. ‘I don’t think everybody’s aware of the potential repercussions of those types of actions.’
And according to an interview with Eurogamer, Fergusson explained the kind of reprisals that might be on the way.
‘We have a banning system built into our stuff so we can go in and identify certain people,’ he said. ‘Some people aren’t smart about what they do. They’ll be disappointed on 20th September when they can’t get in and can’t play. They may be banned.’
Fergusson told an anecdote about someone trying to spam a video chat between fans and Fergusson with spoilers in all caps, and said Epic would rather “pick the bad apples out of the pool” than let people ruin the game. He said those players, and the videos themselves, are “going against everything we’re trying to accomplish.”
I understand being annoyed, but banning people from the game? That seems … extreme.
