Epic: If You Shared Gears of War 3 Spoiler Videos, You Might Be Banned

Epic Games is not happy with gamers who shared footage of the Gears of War 3 campaign that leaked onto YouTube not too long ago — and people who shared it might end up banned from the game, says the company.

Gears 3 Executive Producer Rod Fergusson told Edge that Epic is keeping track of the people who pushed it down on the playground during recess. And Epic has a long memory.

‘We’re extremely diligent about getting that stuff taken down and issued a call to fans to not perpetuate it… and just keeping track of those who do,’ Fergusson said. ‘I don’t think everybody’s aware of the potential repercussions of those types of actions.’

And according to an interview with Eurogamer, Fergusson explained the kind of reprisals that might be on the way.

‘We have a banning system built into our stuff so we can go in and identify certain people,’ he said. ‘Some people aren’t smart about what they do. They’ll be disappointed on 20th September when they can’t get in and can’t play. They may be banned.’

Fergusson told an anecdote about someone trying to spam a video chat between fans and Fergusson with spoilers in all caps, and said Epic would rather “pick the bad apples out of the pool” than let people ruin the game. He said those players, and the videos themselves, are “going against everything we’re trying to accomplish.”

I understand being annoyed, but banning people from the game? That seems … extreme.

Extreme? More like necessary, Battlefield 3 footage was leaked like the agreement was a joke and without overkill repercussions, other games wouldn’t be any different at this rate.

Just an opinion, but I’m with Epic with this one.

*I totally agree, the leaked footage has raised a few questions and the spoilers are just too much..

*I’ve noticed a difference between the youtube-leaked and the interviewed version of act 1, the prologue.

In the youtube-leaked version, after Marcus wake up and find Dom n’ Jace.. they reunite with Anya, who is seen to be talking to a another COG without a helmet who has orange/brown facial hair (almost like Dom)

In the GameFront interview (9min), it shows the same scene but with Anya talking to normal (helmet-wearing) COG soldier..

why is this? – who is the orange-haired COG soldier? I tried to to a print-screen pic of the youtube-leaked version but it was fortunately removed.. lol

damn do i hate spoilers..
