Earlier this week, the gaming community was extremely surprised to hear statements from Taiwanese laptop manufacturer, Acer, that they were planning on developing a game console. Executive James T. Wong told reporters at a press conference that they were looking to produce a console with an emphasis on “open standards.” Well, looks like that was all a big misinterpretation, as an Acer spokesperson sent out this message:
“That was a major misunderstanding as JT [James T Wong, Acer’s senior VP] was wrongly interpreted,” said a UK spokesperson for the firm. “Acer is not going to release any game console but the idea is to develop a high-end PC (so not a console) targeted at the serious gamer.”
Ah, so they’re really just working on specialized gaming PC. That makes much more sense. It’s just as well too; the console markets already feeling saturated enough.
