EVE Onine Developer Closing its San Francisco Studio

CCP’s latest financial report has revealed that it’s closing its San Francisco studio.

This closure is part of the EVE Online developer’s continued efforts to “merge and streamline” its business. The company has additionally revealed that Chief Marketing Officer David Reid has left the company along with Chief Financial Officer Hoe Galloe. It affirmed in a statement that both departed “of their own volition” and that neither were laid off.

“As part of our plans to combine and simplify our business in key operational company, we will soon say goodbye to two of the Company’s management,” said CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson in a translation of the report. “Joe Gallo and David Reid [have done] a great job for the CCP and I wish them all the best for the future.”

The reason for the San Francisco office’s closure is likely rooted in the fact CCP’s reports indicate that the company hasn’t had the best year so far, with earnings down nearly $4 million when compared to the first six months of last year. The company’s hardships were likely not helped by the substantial termination and write-down costs that came along with the cancellation of its MMO World of Darkness earlier this year.

Hopefully some kind of deal can be made for them to sell all of the right to WoD and nWoD to Onyx Publishing. I need some Hero Lab updates that will never happen until CCP drops the electronic rights. Onyx only holds the licensing for the RPGs.

@kosten07: I’d love to see some progress on the World of Darkness game, but I’d also like to see Hero Lab updates as well. It’s a shame that there’s no common sense on things like this.
