EVE Online Hosts Largest Player Battle Ever Witnessed

Over 4,000 players participated in a titanic space battle that lasted five hours long. The battle was between two of EVE Online’s largest coalitions—the CFC and the N3ST in several of the game’s solar systems centered around 6VDT.

With the battle planned in advance, both sides fought for the domination of several of the game’s solar systems. Time was even dilated down to 10 percent—the equivalent of a slideshow to help the servers cope with the massive battle.

At its peak, the battle involved 4,070 pilots and their ships. The most important moment in the battle took place two hours in, when CFC fielded a large fleet of capital ships, whose arrival caused many members of the N3ST to attempt retreat.

By the end of the battle, thousands of ships were destroyed. Breaking world records and in-game bank balances, the battle ended in a victory for CFC. A full break-down of the events can be found at TheMittani, an Eve Online bulletin.

Erlendur Thorsteinsson, an EVE Online developer, confirmed in a tweet that the battle was the biggest ever seen in the game.

While running battles are commonplace in the universe of Eve Online, this one—like the legendary Battle of Asakai before it—are uncommon events that happen only once in awhile.

From what ive read on test and heard in a stream you guys broke away from being bros with Goon, then let in any average joe corp to swell your number, then proceeded to attack goon without battle hardening your group first, which resulted in panic in your ranks from the enemy getting reinforcements.

That seems like poor leadership and poor morale, with the whole thing held together with ice, things get a little hot and you fall apart.

Mind you i dont play EVE anymore. no time or will to play the spreadsheet game, though i didnt have fun popping small TEST and Goon solo miners and watching the system tab balloon.

My only comment on EVE Online as a player is the problem with it is major lag and the fact you can only see dots and lines in these fights any closer and its a nightmare wait between lag spikes. Eve online is not a true mmog anyway. Its a map based, only on these crazy meetings above does it meet massive players so poorly, mostly its just thousands of maps linked together with loading breaks through what is known as jump gates, but really they are just loading the next map..CCP have been adding more and more of these simple maps monthly to help spread players around. So EVE is a MAP BASED GAME. not a free roaming, full fledged environment to move in like most mmo’s.
