EVE Online: Retribution Announced

Attention Space Truckers: a new expansion for Eve Online, Retribution, has been announced. Coming December 4, the expansion will add three new features to the game: Bounty Hunting, new ships with new roles (more choice and specialization), and something called ‘Crimewatch’, described thusly: “EVE Online offers freedom of choice. Choose to protect. Choose to build. Choose to destroy. Choose to subjugate others. Crimewatch makes these choices more meaningful by providing consequences. Crimewatch increases the visibility of the choices a pilot has made, so that others can choose to act or react accordingly.”

Awesome? If you play Eve Online, probably. Sound off in comments and let us know how you’re taking the news.

It takes a special kind of masochist to play EVE Online. Its one of the few games where even if you’re doing well, you’re losing. Rarely will you find an experience that combines fundamental imbalances, numerous bugs, a terrible community and lack of content as well as EVE does. Unsurprisingly, the turnover is pretty much 100%: the player base has been stagnant for several years now and what growth there is comes mostly from hard-core veterans buying extra accounts. Their so desperate for players they let you pay your subscription with in-game currency. I have no idea how that game survives, honestly..I guess its because CCP is such a small studio. I’d love to see a Kickstarter for a game like EVE but with actual content, some attempt at balance and a UI that didn’t want to make you jump off a bridge.
