More Orks vs. Marines in Warhammer 40K: Storm of Vengeance
Games Workshop and the mobile arm of developer Eutechnyx (Ninja Cats vs Samurai Dogs) announced this morning that the Warhammer 40K tabletop campaign pack originally published in 1997 will be transformed into a “lane strategy game” for PC and mobile.
Hmm. I’ve never heard the term “lane strategy” used to describe an actual game. It’s frequently used when discussing MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends, so I’ll hazard a guess and say Storm of Vengeance will be MOBA-like. Based on this synopsis from Eutechnyx, it definitely sounds like this one will be a different than your typical three-lane, 5v5 MOBA, though:
Storm of Vengeance tells the story of a pivotal moment in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, during the legendary planetary conflict on Piscina IV. Featuring two of Games Workshop’s most cherished characters, Grand Master Belial and Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka, Storm of Vengeance offers the player the chance to command the tenacious defence of the planet with only 100 Dark Angel Space Marines, or attempt it’s annihilation using the cunning of the Ork Waaagh! and their telly-porta technology.
Given the limited number of defenders for the Space Marines, could be this one is actually more PvP tower defense than MOBA. That would make sense given Eutechnyx’s Ninja Cats vs. Samurai Dogs is a tower defense game. Still, why leave it up in the air with the vague “lane strategy” description?
Anywho, that’s all we’ve got on Warhammer 40,000: Storm of Vengeance at the moment (no website, screens, or trailer available), aside from it’s expected launch in Q1 2014. That’s sometime within the next four months, so we should soon be hearing more about the third of three (so far) Warhammer 40K games slated for release next year.
