EverQuest II: Chains of Eternity Takes You to the Other Side
Shortly after celebrating its 8th anniversary, the free-to-play MMORPG EverQuest II released its 9th expansion yesterday. Chains of Eternity focuses on the death of EverQuest covergirl Firiona Vie. The players journey into the afterlife to discover what has befallen Norrath’s figurehead and along the way uncover deeper problems affecting the hereafter. In addition to the level cap raise from 90 to 95, EQ2 does what it does best: offer content for many different play styles. Solo dungeons, over land quests, raids, group instancing, and more craftable items allow this expansion to provide content for everyone who enjoys the game.
One of the most interesting innovations in the game actually arrived a few months ago. Sony Online Entertainment introduced the Krono token that grants one month of premium subscription service. Since this token takes the form of an item in the game, it can be bought, sold, and traded for in-game currency. That’s right, you can now farm mobs to pay for a premium monthly subscription and all that entails. Or if you have a paid sub, you can sell the Krono token for a great deal of platinum. If this experiment in linking in-game currency to an item that has real world cash value is a success, SOE has stated they plan to roll it out to their other titles as well.
