EverQuest II Gets ‘Amazing Growth’ After Going F2P

The shift to free-to-play is paying off for EverQuest II, it seems.

That’s according to John Smedley, Sony Online Entertainment’s president, who said via Twitter that the MMO has seen a 40 percent jump in daily log-ins since it switched to its F2P model (kind of officially) in December. He also new player numbers have jumped 300 percent and item sales have gone up 200 percent in that period.

Smedley also pointed out that EQII saw its gains against a field of “very good competition,” namely Star Wars: The Old Republic. High-five to Sony, I guess. Maybe it should make all its games free-to-play [/rimshot].
