EverQuest Next Will Have a PC-Orientated Launch

Several upcoming MMORPGs, inlcuding Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and The Elder Scrolls Online are angling themselves as next-gen titles by releasing on next-gen console platforms in addition to the PC. EverQuest Next, arguably the MMORPG which brings the most next-gen concepts to the table, is not one of those games, and its developers seem intent on focusing on the PC above all else.

David Georgeson, producer for Sony Online Entertainment, said in an interview with Eurogamer that Sony’s next-generation console is on his team’s radar. However, they are focusing on the PC for now.

“We’re very serious about this being a PC-orientated launch,” Georgeson said.

“Now, you’re dumb not to explore other options with a business of this type, but we’re very serious about developing for the PC. You know the company knows a lot about the PlayStation 4 – look at DC Universe Online and Planetside 2 – so we have a lot of people becoming extraordinarily knowledgeable with that box. We’re not adverse to the idea, but we’re not going down that path yet.”

Nice to see someone actually understands how things SHOULD work. A multi platform game should be done on PC first and then ported to consoles. Doing it the other way around just does not make sense and results in crappy games.
