Everything We Know About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Strike Packages

Probably the biggest change to Modern Warfare 3 is the addition of the “Strike Package” system that lets players differentiate themselves by play style. There are three packages, and all three affect the way Kill Streak rewards are divvied out to players. The Assault package largely maintains the MW2 kill streak system, but the Support package awards players with kill streak rewards when they earn points for doing things like capturing objectives in various game modes — allowing players who may not pull down the best kill-death ratios to still earn great kill streaks. Their streaks also don’t reset when Support players die, and their streak rewards are more geared toward recon and helping out the team.

The third Strike Package is for lone wolf players: the Specialist package. As you earn kills as a Specialist, instead of receiving kill streak rewards, you instead gain additional perks, increasing your three perks up to six. They reset when you’re killed, but until that happens, you can really increase your effectiveness in battle.

Kill Confirmed Mode

As you might have guessed from the addition of strike packages, the goal with Modern Warfare 3 is to make the game a little more team-focused. To that end, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have introduced a new game type called “Kill Confirmed” to the standard rotation of Modern Warfare multiplayer games.

Kill Confirmed tends to put a larger emphasis on working together because it’s a game type in which kills aren’t really what it takes to win. You might bring down an enemy, but the kill isn’t what earns you points — confirming the kill does. That means you need to rush over and grab a set of dog tags that falls off the bodies when they’re killed. Anyone can collect the tags off a fallen body, including the enemy’s comrades, and if your opponents snag their teammates’ tags off the ground, they can deny you that kill and the score that goes along with it.

You also have the ability to deny kills to your enemies by gathering your teammates’ tags when they die, as well. So working together as a team toward both ends — gathering enemies’ tags and protecting friends’ tags — is key to the game mode. In addition, you’ll be able to exercise different tactics, like leaving teammates’ tags on the ground and using them as bait to rack up more kills.
