Evoland is a Love Letter to Video Games

From 16bit adventures with Legend of Zelda-style action, to Final Fantasy VII and its turn-based combat, the RPG genre has offered some of the most memorable experiences in gaming.

Evoland is best described as a “short story of adventure video games evolution”—it’s a game about JRPGs and how they’ve transformed over the years. A cross between a turn-based JRPG and an action RPG, Evoland is a love letter and a history lesson all in one.

The early portion of the game is an homage to the most basic of RPGs. As you play through the adventure and discover relics and unlock treasure chests, so too does the game evolve from simple 8-bit sprites to full 3D.

You can pick it up on Steam now.
