Exclusive GH3 "Expansion Tracks" Revealed

Talk about pre-emptive strike. The game‘s not even out yet and it’s already getting extra content.

In promotion of its upcoming videogame soundtrack “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Companion Pack”, Interscope Records will be giving out special codes to Xbox 360 owners that allow them download three extra playable tracks (GH3). Those buying this soundtrack can redeem their special code via www.interscope.com/guitarherocode/. Here are details regarding said tracks:

The three expansion tracks are “Carcinogen Crush” from AFI (from an EP due in December), “Tina” from Flyleaf and a remix of Marilyn Manson’s “Putting Holes In Happiness” by Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The latter two recordings also are heard on the soundtrack CD, along with AFI’s “Miss Murder,” Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing,” Queens Of The Stone Age’s “3′s And 7′s,” Smashing Pumpkins’ “Cherub Rock,” Velvet Revolver’s “Slither,” Living Colour’s “Cult Of Personality,” Rise Against’s “Prayer Of The Refugee,” the Guitar Hero rendition of “Devil Went Down To Georgia” by Steve Ouimette and the game’s intro by Slash, who is also a character in the game.

Wow, gotta love a promotion like this. Purchase audio CD and get three DLC tracks to boot. Not sure what to make of it. The fact we’ve only had one Guitar Hero game to example the pricing scheme of DLC makes it hard to decide what is a deal or not. If you are finding the current GH2 DLC content too expensive right now, then this little bundle could very well seem like a deal. Then again, we haven’t seen what trend the GH3 DLC pricing will follow. For all we know, it could be for the worse. Pricing be damned, I just hope we get a better song selection this time around. I’ll happily fork over the MS points for a really rockin’ song.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be available in stores October 28th.
