Explore the Cities of Tomorrow in SimCity

It’s not quite the robots and flying cars of The Jetsons, but the future is coming to SimCity.

The Cities of Tomorrow expansion will add plausible future tech to SimCity, including maglev trains, firefighting drones, and megatowers, and in a new developer walkthrough, we get a lengthy sampling of how all these new features will work:

I’ve got to admit, videos like these get me jonesing to play the new SimCity. Then I remember it’s online only, features small cities, and doesn’t allow players to save, destroy, and replay their creations — the core of any good SimCity experience. Oh, and the expansion will cost you $30. That’s a hefty sum for something modders could have added for free… if SimCity allowed modding.

Sigh.

If none of the above bothers you, you can download Cities of Tomorrow on November 12. I think I’ll wait until Maxis figures out offline play and modding for SimCity.

Don’t forget the left out the lack of solo play (because you’re never REALLY playing alone online), overly cartoony graphics and completely unoptimized performance.

Stamp sized cities still? No purchasing patron present.
