Fallout 3 Teaser Site and Forums Go Live
As any Fallout fan can tell you, Bethesda recently acquired the Fallout IP from Interplay for $5.75 million. Now, Bethesda has opened up forums, and they’ve tossed up a teaser site that basically consists of the picture over to the right. Todd Howard, executive producer for Fallout (and incidentally, for Oblivion), says, “We had known that Fallout had been left behind (when Interplay went bust). The developers were saying â$Ëœwe’re really interested in doing something with this IP’ so the business people came back six months later and handed it over saying â$Ëœhave fun’.” Howard even said that Oblivion is pretty much done, stating, “I think I’d be surprised if we do another expansion.” The upside of that is, as Howard says, “We have pretty much everybody on Fallout 3 right now. It started off kind of small and then we add people to it and now the expansion’s done, all those people have come on to Fallout 3. That’s the thing we want to focus on right now.
While we don’t know what Bethesda plans for the franchise, a cursory inspection of the forums shows that the players want the same gameplay as the old Fallout. Bethesda, however, has made it clear they will be taking the IP in their own direction. We’ll have to wait and see.
