Fan Modding Project Brings Halo to CryEngine 3

Not to be confused with this one-off render of Halo 4 in CryEngine 3, Venerance: Sigma Octanus IV is an ambitious total conversion for Crysis 2, set in the Halo universe. Taking advantage of Crytek’s generous set of modding options, Halo die-hards will draw on their love of the series to expand the lore and hopefully make some of their own innovations in a stand-alone, full-length title. A statement on the website provides exhaustive detail, including this mission statement:

“The goal of Venerance is to create a very immersive first-person experience in the Halo universe, based heavily on the events that occurred on Sigma Octanus IV as seen in “The Fall of Reach” by Eric Nylund. You will play as a member of Blue Team during those events, groundside. The mod will be geared towards very high-end gaming PCs, and will place the priorities of quality and zero-financial-cost over the priority of how soon it is finished.

Venerance is for the fans, by the fans, and in tribute to the human beings that brought and bring us the Halo universe we know and love, Bungie Studios and 343 Industries.”

The design materials already completed are impressive; in keeping with the Crysis series’ roots, Venerance has a jungle setting. We’ll keep an eye on the project as it picks up steam; Halo fans are surely happy about the prospect of more stories in the universe, which will complement the official novelizations, as well as new live-action film shorts.
