Fans Contribute $100,000 to MechWarrior Online Charity

Piranha Games has announced that the MechWarrior Online charity for cancer has garnered over $100,000 in contributions.

Creative Director Bryan Ekman said that the fan support had far outweighed the expectations of the developers.

“When we first had the idea for Sarah’s Jenner we thought that ten thousand dollars would be a number we could all be proud of,” he told GameInformer.

“The response from the MechWarrior community and from the games industry at large has been overwhelming. We can’t thank everyone enough for unifying in this effort to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and cancer research.”

Honoring a young fan who passed away earlier this year, the developers created a specialized mech called Sarah’s Jenner for pilots to purchase for $10, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. It is set to run until Aug. 20.
