Far Cry 2 In-Game Footage

If Crysis will be the mother of all games, Far Cry 2 will certainly be the sister of the mother of all games. Barely resembling anything like Far Cry (even a totally new engine), Far Cry 2 is taking the whole sandbox gameplay to the next level. When Ubisoft said 50 sq. kilometers of seamless dynamic gameplay, I really wanted to believe them. After seeing this video, I almost do believe them. Far Cry 2 is sporting some unique features such as immediate wound attention and propagating fire – not to mention autonomous AI, real day-night cycle, and killer destructible environments sporting some realistic physics. I mean how cool is it to start your very own brush fire? I mean a living-breathing brushfire feeding off the wind and any object tagged burnable. Seriously, this game is going to be every pyromaniac’s wet dream.

The above video was apparently filmed at the Leipzig Gaming Convention last month. This is the best in-game footage of Far Cry 2 we’ve seen thus yet. The devs even treat the Far Cry fans with the return of the hand-glider. Although, it remains to be seen if Far Cry 2 will be a Crysis killer – it surely will hold its own. My only complaint so far is with the enemy models. The game world looks beautiful; however, (in contrast) the enemy models and animations seem to be at little off. Keep in mind this game isn’t due until sometime in 2008, so there is plenty of time for Ubi to perfect things. Here’s hoping we get to light the world on fire early 2008. Burn.. burn…burn…
