Father's Day Feature Focuses on the Positives of Violence in Video Games

Gamasutra has a great article written by Eric Van Pelt entitled “How Killing People With My Dad Improved Our Relationship”. In a media saturated with the testimonies of how evil video games are, as well as how socially degrading and isolating, a voice speaks to the positive experiences with video games.

Speaking of Congress, it seems that whenever a politician needs to strut, or as is more often the case, polish their moral credentials, video games are their social evil of choice to rally against in brandishing their family values.

Personally I’m a little tired of it, especially when my own experience has been exactly the opposite. If anything, killing people online with my dad has improved our relationship.

This is a really refreshing piece that touches on my own experiences with family and friends. Nothing says “I love you” like family and good friends gathering to play Mutiplayer Deathmatch on Halo 2 or bowling in the living room on the Wii.

The family that plays together stays together.
