Female Characters Coming Colonial Marines’ Multiplayer, Co-Op
Gearbox announced last weekend during a PAX Prime panel that Aliens: Colonial Marines will, in fact, include female playable characters in its multiplayer and co-op modes.
That’s a reversal from the developer’s earlier position, when it said that female characters wouldn’t be playable in the game. As Alien fans can imagine, that caused some hubbub, given that women are an absolutely huge part of Alien storytelling. It was almost criminal to make a game in the universe of the films and not include playable female characters. The situation even spawned a petition, which garnered more than 4,000 signatures.
Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said that the developer was holding off on showing any female character art until it was finished. He said the developer was afraid showing concept art would “become a promise,” and that that could disappoint people, so the company waited until PAX to confirm female characters in multiplayer and co-op. But they are confirmed at this point.
“We realized some people were starting to feel bad. We exist to entertain people,” Pitchford said.
