Fight! Warhorse Shows Off Kingdom Come: Deliverance Combat
Revolutionary, realistic first-person medieval melee combat.
That’s the biggest promise from developer Warhorse in regard to its crowdfunded RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It’s also the biggest challenge. Many studios have tried first-person melee fighting, and most have failed to make it compelling, let alone an accurate depiction of Western martial arts.
In their latest Deliverance developer diary, Warhorse not only shares a detailed explanation of how its combat system works, it shows it in action. And I’m impressed. I really like how feints can be used and how stamina is closely tied to attacks and defense.
This will definitely be something I’ll have to try for myself before delivering a verdict, but thus far it looks great. See for yourself below:
With nine days remaining, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance Kickstarter campaign now has more than 22,000 backers who have contributed more than $1.1 million. That puts the project just a few hundred dollars below its next stretch goal — performance capture. Warhorse says it will incorporate Ryse-like body and facial animations into Deliverance.
