Soldier of Fortune
1.07 version already. Click Here and read the comments and you'll see why! Matter a fact is that if you're still at 1.06, get this patch (1.07f) and not the 1.07 one. If you're still on 1.03, 1.04 or 1.05, get the 1.06 (Gold) Patch first, and then get this one! Still having problems? Post your complaint on the official Raven forum! Try to explain what you did to get it working! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, today is the day: Raven officially released the long-awaited 1.07-patch: The patch removes WON support from the game and exchanges it for GameSpy browser support. (CD keys no longer required to play online) There are also a number of other minor bug fixes included. This patch requires that Soldier of Fortune be patched up to 1.06, first, which means if you have the Soldier of Fortune Gold edition, this is the only patch you need. If you have the standard Soldier of Fortune, you need the 1.06 Gold patch first and then this one. Here are some parts of the info-file: This patch adds direct support for GameSpy while removing WON.net support. As of August 2001, WON no longer hosts Soldier of Fortune multiplayer gaming. Various other minor issues were resolved as well. This patch is recommended for all multiplayer players of Soldier of Fortune. All multiplayer competitors must be using the same version to compete. Note that after August 2001, version 1.07 or higher will be required for all Internet play. The patch is not needed for the single player game, but is recommended in case multiplay is accessed in the future. After installation, the patch will require approximately 2MB additional disk space. System Requirements (after installing the patch) ------------------------------------------------ • 3-D Hardware Accelerated with full OpenGL support (*) • Pentium® 233 MHz processor (Pentium II recommended) • 64 MB of RAM • U.S. version Microsoft® Windows® 95/98 or NT 4.0-SP5 operating system • 100% Windows 95/98 or NT-SP5-compatible computer system (including compatible 32-bit drivers for CD-ROM, videocard, sound card, and input devices) • 800 MB of uncompressed hard disk space, plus an additional 100 MB for the Windows swap file • Quad-speed CD-ROM drive (600k/sec sustained transfer rate) • DirectX® 7.0 or higher for Windows 95/98 • 100% Windows 95/98/NT-compatible sound card and driver • 100% Windows 95/98/NT-compatible mouse and driver • Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP and IPX) play supported • Internet play requires a 100% Windows 95/98/NT-compatible 28.8 Kbps (or faster) modem with Internet Service Provider (*) A 100% full OpenGL-compliant 3-D video card is required. Soldier of Fortune Gold uses OpenGL to support 3-D hardware acceleration. Features: * No longer generates configsheet.cpp * Removed WON * Added GameSpy * Fixed a few minor issues with dm_flags * The "No items" dmflag no longer removes the flags from CTF and Control games * Removed some network testing code to save some memory * Fixed a spectator cheat in CTF. * Dedicated server crash fixed under Windows(R) 2000 * Recompiled with VC SP5 and the Processor Pack * Added spectator and server passwords to the menus
:) Important: For internet-play you also need the 1.07F-patch!!! *Update* You MUST install this patch over your 1.03-version. No need to install 1.04, 1.05 or 1.05b first (bad idea) ;) Note: v1.03 is the STANDARD retail version of SoF when you buy it. I've had many people asking me where to download the 1.03 patch :D sorry. Here are the details: * Added support for multi colored names in the score board * Added RED/BLUE team support in CTF * Added CONTROL Deathmatch Option * Added RED/BLUE team support into CONQUER deathmatch * Added downloads of menu .rmf files for deathmatch levels * Added downloads of bot pathing files for deathmatch levels * Fixed remote server calls for any call requiring a string with spaces in it use single quotes instead of double quotes. * General revisions to the AI, improving enemies' awareness, mobility, and tactics. * Added support for newer EAX map versions, so we are concurrent with EAX map output from the latest version of Eagle. * Multiplayer mode 7, "Conquer the Bunker" * Integrated and optimized Rich Whitehouse's bot code resulting in the first SOF Bot * Waypoint editing system for use with the SOF Bot * All code compiled with VC6.0 SP4 now * Fixed download issue with skies * Changed the game to try to initialize any .PAK file in the game directory, not just pak#.pak files * Added support for the Intel I810 graphics chipset

people who have the low violence version of the demo. Installing the patch will make the demo the equivalent of the patched full version demo. Please note that the gore is turned off by default after applying the patch. You must go into the violence lock menu (it is a blank password) and re-enable all of the features that are turned off.

the 1.04 patch, just install the patch over your current game. However, people who DID install the 1.04 patch, here's what to do: So what to do: - Reinstall the game - Apply patch Yeah I know it sucks, but it's true. In addition, your savegames won't work anymore... The reason for this is because 1.04 was a Beta and Raven didn't include a "history" patch. List o' fixes: EAX performance optimizations. Update to A3D's A3DAPI.dll to provide detection for Vortex 2 chipsets. Pure server option. By default, this option is disabled. You will need to go into the parental menu to enable it, in order to connect to modified servers. Added "net_mainip" cvar to specify the main IP index (use ip_list to see the IPs). Update to the WON library that addresses some bugs. Addressed an issue where people behind firewalls are connecting from the same IP By default, the Pure Server option will be set to "Locked Out" under the parental menu. When this option is locked out, you will only see multiplayer games in the server browser that are running the un-modified version of SoF V1.05. Enabling this feature will allow you to see all servers, including ones that are running code that has been modified by the community (i.e. MODs).
1.05 patch. SoF V1.04 (Released: April 20, 2000) -------------------------------------------------- Fixes: Fixed crash in EAX sound code when playing old sounds. Fixed crash in DM when getting killed by standing over a flaming body. Fixed crash in DM for Arsenal caused by weapon switching / inventory bug. Added a check for invalided saved game files in the menu code. Changed the "Error during Initialization" dialog to report the specific error. Added view height change for MOF. Fixed a bug in detection of remote IP address for systems with multiple IPs. Circumvented W2K bug in SetProcessWorkingSetSize(). This call would basically not allow various GL implementations to initialize under W2K. Removed the call to that function. Re-organized CD copy protection. Made it so that the winsock error WSAECONNRESET doesn't drop you to the console during DM server browsing. Fixed problem where people had difficulty connecting to servers. Fixed an issue with spectator mode. Fixed an overflow issue with demo playback. Fixed CTF issue with force join. Added "ainame" worldspawn over-ride to specify the enemy set for user mods. Added a "-nostart" command line option, so that dedicated servers won't automatically start dedicated.cfg. Fixed irqctf1 where players could get in bad spots. Fixed scripting problem in KOS3 where killing the helicopter. EAX performance optimizations. Server Browers updates info when bringing up the status of a particular server. Automatic account login for dedicated servers. Clients connecting to dedicated servers no longer need a CD. Note: This patch should be considered BETA software and has not been fully tested. You should re-install the game if you need to return to V1.03. Also included in this version is a DLL from Creative Labs. This emulates EAX2.0 on any card that supports EAX1.0. This would include SB PCI cards, Vortex2 cards, and older Sensura based cards. To install this feature, run the batch file in the SoF directory called "installeax.bat".
we removed the update, the part of the installer that deletes the EAXsnd.dll was left in place. Our bad. Attached is the file that should go in. Put it in the RavenSOF folder, where the original one should have been. It's exactly the same as the one the original game uses, but it should work. Again, our apologies. Thank you Thomas McGuire for helping out spot that one. I can't believe we missed it ourselves:)" - Jake Simpson
