Final Fantasies XI and XIV Coming Back Online This Weekend

In the wake of the Sendai earthquake that rocked Japan two weeks ago, Square Enix was forced to shut down the Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV servers in order to conserve power. They really want to get those games going again — get PlayOnline back up, too — and so they’ve given up some things to make it happen, and everything should be working again at 4 pm Pacific this Friday, March 25.

In order to make it work, they’ve reduced lighting in the Square Enix offices in Tokyo as well as cut off the air conditioning entirely. (It’s cold in Japan right now, so when they say AC, they’re referring to the system that cools and heats.) Square Enix employees are suffering for you, gamers; you should keep that in mind next time you feel like bitching about their customer service, or if they have to take the servers offline again, which they say is a distinct possibility.
