Paradox Endings Guide

Note: Many of the Paradox Endings require a Fragment Skill called “Paradox Scope”. The Fragment Skill is obtained at Serendipity, from the Mystic in Temptation Plaza. You’ll unlock the “Paradox Scope” after completing the main story. Turning it on activates alternate versions of battles when replayed from the main story that will unlock Paradox Endings.

Addendum: Completing the instructions for each of these Paradox Endings will open up a new location on the Historia Crux. Visit it to see the Ending Cinematic and collect your reward.

Paradox Ending 1: Fate and Freedom

  • Historia Crux Location: Episode 5 – The Void Beyond – New Bodhum
  • Requirement: None
  • Instructions: This is the easiest Paradox Ending to achieve, and the first you should get while completing the main story. During the Live Trigger conversation with Lightning, select “Yes” as your answer. You’ll get the Paradox Ending, plus 1,500 CP. When you return to the Historia Crux map, return to Hollow Seclusion and don’t agree this time to continue the story.

Paradox Ending 2: A Giant Mistake

  • Historia Crux Location: Bresha Ruins (005 AF)
  • Requirement: None
  • Instructions: During your main playthrough, you’ll have to weaken the giant Atlas before defeating him in the Bresha Ruins. Instead of weakening him, you can always go back and defeat his fully-powered version. Once defeated, you’ll unlock the ending.

Paradox Ending 3: Vanille’s Truth

  • Historia Crux Location: Oerba (200 AF)
  • Requirement: Paradox Scope Active
  • Instructions: Return to the Deserted Schoolhouse, get to the northwest rooftop and defeat Caius with the Paradox Scope active.

Paradox Ending 4: Mog’s Marvelous Flan Plan

  • Historia Crux Location: Sunleth Waterscape (300 AF)
  • Requirement: None
  • Instructions: Return to the waterscape and defeat the Royal Ripeness with Snow. After defeating the boss, though, turn around and fight it again to unlock a Paradox Ending.

Paradox Ending 5: Test Subjects

  • Historia Crux Location: Augusta Tower (200 AF)
  • Requirement: Paradox Scope Active
  • Instructions: With the Paradox Scope on, return to the Tower and defeat the Proto fal’Cie at the top floor.

Paradox Ending 6: The Future Is Hope

  • Historia Crux Location: Academia (4XX AF)
  • Requirement: Paradox Scope Active
  • Instructions: Just like in the main story, Hope and Alyssa will send you on a quest for Gravitron Cores. Give them all to Alyssa, don’t skip the cutscene after giving away the fifth core. During the Live Trigger conversation, refuse to take the artifact.

Paradox Ending 7: Beneath a Timeless Sky

  • Historia Crux Location: Episode 5 – The Void Beyond
  • Requirement: Paradox Scope Active
  • Instructions: Go back to Academia (4XX AF) and replay the section where you deliver Gravitron Cores to Alyssa, and accept the artifact just as you would during the main story. To unlock the Paradox Ending, fight Caius again at the Throne of the Goddess.

Paradox Ending 8: Heir to Chaos

  • Historia Crux Location: A Dying World (700 AF)
  • Requirement: Paradox Scope Active
  • Instructions: This is the most difficult of all the Paradox Endings, and the trickiest to complete. Go back to Academia (4XX AF) yet again, but you won’t need the Paradox Scope on just yet, leave it off for now. Turn in the Gravitron Cores to Alyssa, again, and accept the artifact during the Live Trigger conversation. Fight Caius again, just like in the main story, but with the Paradox Scope still off. Keep following the story until you reach New Bodhum, which is at the point you’ll activate the Paradox Scope. Continue playing until you reach A Dying World (700 AF) and defeat Caius with Noel alone with the Paradox Scope active. Come prepared, this is one of the toughest battles in the game.

The last ending was failry easy considering how strong Noel is but on the seventh ending as weak as Serah is Caius tears her apart.HE gets her hopes up then he gets all super strong and one hit k.os ure monsters

I agree with John, with a Noel fully developed you dont even need accesories to beat Caius, its pretty easy.
The real hard fight is the one with Serah, if you dont pay ATTENTION he will crush serah with his tremendous super power, even the sentinel monsters loose their hp to fast (for being a sentinel)

Is there any way to get back to the first paradox ending? Fate and Freedom, that is. I guess I was too smart the first time and took the real ending without realizing the fake ending would get me something. Just can’t figure out how to get back to “Hollow Seclusion.”

You CAN switch difficulties you will still get the fragment. I switched it to easy mode and beat Caius with Serah.

@Kos -
I had the same problem, but don’t worry, it is possible to get back there. Just close the gate to Academia -4XX- and replay all the events leading up to that choice in Hollow Seclusion. There you go!

@Ash Paulsen
Thanks a ton, I’ll do that! I figured there had to be somewhere to go. They should add that to the guide, since I’m sure plenty of folks have done what we did.

For the Battle Serah + Monster vs. Caius :

I started out with SAB/SEN to lower Caius’ magic resistance and inflict poison. Then switched between COM/RAV and RAV/SEN as to raise the chain and keep Caius from targeting almost exclusively Serah (thats what happened to me before -.-”). When necessary I switched to RAV/MED.
When he is using his buffing-ability, I sometimes switched back to SAB/SEN so I could lower his damage output.
Using the accesoire that raises the effectiveness of Potions was also a big help, though not completely necessary (Helps out a lot in the Battle Noel vs. Caius though so you don’t have to constantly switch to MED)

I missed getting the gate seal in 5AF on my first play threw. Now when i go back there its not there. I checked and i don’t have it and i can’t close the gate to fight Atlas. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know if theres a way to get the gate seal? Thanks.

To be honest i didnt have any trouble deafeating caius or any of the buhamuts once you obtain the double CP fragment skill from obtaining all brusha ruins and yuschas massif i think head to acedemia 400AF and find one of the blocked passaged via yellow beems with monster on the other side here you will get endless swarms of ceith with only a few second between each battle starts best way to train up ive noticed just ok me a while to get all the fragments needed now just need to complete the fragments and watch the secret endings. paradox scope is only obtained once you have completed the main story line and watched through the credits it is needed for 100% completion hope it helps

So I have every achievement but view all paradox endings and I was just wondering, do you need the paradox scope active in order to view the secret ending after the credits or do you need to do something else like when the cinematic action comes up and tells you if you want to kill Cauis or not??

I just inflict wound to destroy his ability to raise health make sure its low enough then go for the kill

Yeah the only way I beat Caius with serah, was with my sentinel chocobo, and serah as a saboteur, took forever but that way it wounded him and he could heal to full health. Serah was fully leveled up as was my sentinel, but that was the only way I could kill him, got one star but at least I killed him.

Thanks a lot for the guide. Really helped a lot. And Reideen too, took me a while but I was finally able to kill Caius. 0 stars though. xD Noel vs Caius is easier, but annoying because he keeps launching you. :\

Hey I have all 8 paradox endings. I’m just missing the true ending. For some reason the game hasn’t told me that I’ve unlocked it yet. Anyone knows what might be wrong?

the paradox ending “Beneath a Timeless Sky” is hardest to get than “heir to chaos”,well maybe just for me cuz serah its not “my” main character,so its not as strong as I have Noel, for that reason I have trouble beating Caius even using a SEN,or with Lightning on my paradigm pack

Noel Clark

On June 25, 2012 at 3:50 am

For Caius as Noel:
Hit him once as COM, then RAV him up to stagger in just a few hits, and be prepared to revert to healing while he’s still staggered. I was a healer lvl 1 did the trick.

As Serah:
Like what the other guy said. SAB/SEN and SAB keeps the stagger up just like COM. So then you go straight to RAV and stagger him quickly, then back to SAB so you get nice deep wounds. Make sure the sentinal is always up, he’s your lifeline. Keep him healed and shoot wounds from behind his back.

For serah, i use SAB role and xoloty.. a wonderful world @@
just waiting for him got halved HP… then SMASH~

For Noel, don’t forget use immoveable.. because caius always make he fly

im having trouble of going further on with the game because of the paradox ending: beneath a timeless sky. I forgot to turnoff the paradox scope when fighting caius and now it won’t allow me to go further on with the game.
