Final Fantasy XIV Suspending Non-Subscribed Accounts Tomorrow

With Final Fantasy XIV moving to a subscription model after a year-long unlimited free trial period, players have been notified that that “the free trial period for the following service will soon end. Please note that after the end date, you will be billed service fees for your automatically continuous options.”

While this sounds like players will be charged without consent, this isn’t so, as Square-Enix is suspending all accounts on the 5th in order to allow everyone to decide whether to subscribe or not. On the 6th, the new pay-model comes into effect.

Until the launch of Final Fantasy XIV’s patch 2.0, the game will be available for the discounted rate of $9.99 a month, with additional characters costing $3 apiece). Post 2.0, the subscription cost will increase to $12.99 per month. Profit while you can.
