FINALLY! Someone Figured Out How To Make Zelda II Good!

It's the Triforce of Phallus!

It's the Triforce of Phallus!

Admit it: No matter how much you try, you can’t wish away the fact that Zelda II: The Adventure of Link’s experiment with abandoning everything that made The Legend of Zelda good – IE replacing the isometric, open world exploration/questing, with platforming – was a bad, bad idea. Yeah, I said it. TAOL just wasn’t that good of a game. But it didn’t have to be that way, I really believe that. Well, via Kotaku, it looks like I’m not the only who feels this way.

See that shot? It’s Zelda II, only as a first person Shooter. Called, cleverly enough, Zelda II: FPS, you can play it in your browser. Just download it here. I can’t really oversell this. It’s everything you love about Nintendo, combined with everything that makes the internet great. Play it. Now. I’ll be over here with my Power Glove.

Have you even played Zelda II, it may not have been very Zelda-like but it wasn’t bad. It was actually a pretty good game. And although much different than the other games in the series, it brought some very important additions to the series, namely the magic system as well as towns/villages and NPC’s.

NPCs were in the first game as was magic. (equipped by rods.) Zelda 2 brought tedious grinding and bad jumping to the series.
