Firefall’s Long-Awaited Launch Coming July 29
It’s been almost four years since Firefall was announced at PAX Prime 2010, and we’re finally getting an official release date.
Firefall’s had a rocky road throughout its existence. We’ve documented a number of the issues before, but suffice to say that many wondered if the game would ever make it to a full release. It appears that those worries can be put to rest, as Red 5 Studios announced today that Firefall will officially launch on July 29.
Back in January, Red 5 parent company The9 announced that they had secured new funding through a stock sale to take the game to a 2014 release.
Firefall will be completely free-to-play, with what the press release calls, “opportunities for cosmetic and convenience upgrades.” Yeah, that would be microtransactions. That’s no surprise to anyone who’s played the long-running beta, as those have been in the game for quite some time.
Still, it’s nice to see Firefall finally come to fruition. It wasn’t that long ago that we thought its release might never happen.
