For the Next Xbox, Cliffy B Wants “Avatar In Real-Time”

Cliffy B has quite high hopes for the next generation of Xbox, and he told OXM exactly what he’s looking to get out of it.

I’m sorry, do you think graphics are good enough? No they’re not! The Xbox 360 is great, we’ve pushed it further than we ever have with Gears of War 3, but I want Avatar in real-time and beyond, I want fully realistic CG, and are we there? Absolutely not. I think there’s absolutely room for improvement.

Well, if Square Enix’s tech director is to be believed, that’s the next step for gaming with physically based rendering and whatnot. So feel free to hold you breath, Cliffy, because you might just get what you’re asking for.

And you may not have long to wait.

Maybe this ass should be looking to the future tech of PCs, and not what the next console will be.

I’m not as aggressive as anon here but I have to say Clifford Bleszinski seems to have gotten high on himself and has forgotten the community that helped make him a success. Yes him and all those at epic have put in a lot of work but when you take a second look so has the community behind what was once their most popular series.

They made a great series of games that were easy to make into your own ideal and the people loved it. To this day those games continue to live online with plenty of players, all except for UT3 which suffered a real lack of support. Yes it had a free expansion and a huge update but even then it fails to support directx 10 (though we see it in the config files), has some pretty low textures on models, with far fewer choices for characters with missing favorites such as the skaarj, and over all could use some tweaking here and there. Not to mention the “story” mode that was once bragged about as being a true part of the game ending up being nothing more than a tutorial with co-op options and cutscenes.

With the Unreal community dying and forgotten I’m not sure how long they can continue without milking Gears of War, there is Bulletstorm but that game was so ugly too look at when you know what to look for, especially on PC. Though it was fun from time to time I was appalled at what passed as a new game.

do we need more same-y shooters with better graphics? The industry is moving in entirely the wrong direction if spending money to make better graphics trumps spending money on things like writers and designers.
