If it’s as good as the prequel web-series that led into Assassin’s Creed II then I’m all for it.

To be fair, the Prince of Persia film was ok. I don’t just mean ‘ok by videogame film adaptations standards’, I mean it really wasn’t that bad a film. Nothing special but certainly watchable, even if casting Jake Gyllenhall as an Arabian was questionable at best (is his acting really that good that they couldn’t find a Middle Eastern actor who could have done the job just as well and not looked out of place? I’ll forgive Gemma Arterton being there though because she can be in every film ever as far as I’m concerned). So I’m guessing Assassin’s Creed will turn out ok as well, but that in itself will make it disappointing because a games franchise like this deserves a really respectful film transition. I’d like to see Aaron Paul as Desmond since he’s already shown on Breaking Bad that he can play the oblivious/apathetic ‘brah’ character who turns good under pressure, not exactly the same as Desmond in the games but close enough. It would also make more sense regarding his father’s disdain of him since in Assassin’s Creed 3 the father just came across as a piece of crap, whereas I think they wanted to get across that he genuinely felt his son was wasting his life and not taking his lineage seriously – which I never really got, because I don’t see how just working in a bar and living in an apartment is grounds for calling someone a failure. Many of us should be so lucky as to hold down a job and own our own living quarters. As for the historical setting, I’d like to see them have another go at Altair’s timeline, but if it’s Fassbender attached then it sounds more likely to be around the same time as the third and fourth games since Desmond’s ancestry becomes a lot more anglocised by that point.
