FPS: Terminator; Time Travel To 2029 By Modding A Game From 2007
File this under Oldies But Goodies But Time Machines – Modders The Original Studios, makers of the hilarious Elementary School Warfare, have announced the upcoming The Terminator-inspired shooter, FPS: Terminator, based on Unreal Tournament 3. The mod (release date TBD) began life as a Gears of War mod, but due to AI issues they switched to Epic’s Unreal Engine III, which they’re claiming will make the NPC death machines more challenging. UT3 is already a pretty great looking game, and based on early screenshots, FPS:T won’t let down in that regard. Thankfully, they’ve taken pains to evoke James Cameron’s aesthetic from T1 & 2, rather than the washed out, made-for-tv look of the two unworthy sequels – As you can see in the video above, the Hunter-Killers look pretty goddamned good too. But below the fold, check out an incredible San Francisco shot:
Neat, huh? You can check out more images from the game here. Of course, pretty pictures and videos + 50 cents will get you your grandmothers’ mispronunciation of Curtis Jackson’s Rap name. We all saw with Lost Planet 2* how a game can look very pretty and suck large. We won’t know if it’s worth a damn until that TBD becomes D’d, but based on these images, I’m pretty interested in playing – especially since it’s no longer based on that crummy PC version of Gears of War.
* I will never refer to is as “Lost Planet ‘Squared’”, because that is stupid.
