Friday Flame Wars: Diablo 3 vs. Max Payne 3

It’s the big question facing gamers the world over next Tuesday. Two titanic franchises are going head to head in a war for your time and money. Who will win? Shooter fans will probably prefer Max. RPG fans will probably prefer Diablo. But when it comes down to it, which will be the better game?

Never cared much for Diablo so this one is an easy one for me. Max Payne 3 it is, though I have an even longer wait since I’ll be playing on the PC instead of the lesser consoles.

These are both franchises that I love, but I anticipate that they may suffer from opposite problems. Diablo 3 looks cool, but I worry that it won’t be noticeably different from Diablo 2. Maybe if I were part of the beta, my fears would already be assuaged, but I have grown a little tired of the sort of loot focus that Diablo started and WoW honed and the endless waves of disposable monsters that I found in my recent replay of Diablo 2.
I have the opposite fear for Max Payne 3. I love the first games so much that I worry that Rockstar isn’t being true to the original. Gone are the dark streets of New York and the insane grin on Max’s face (I guess he actually lost the grin in MP2). I fear that it will be just a shooter that happens to carry Max’s name rather than truly a Max Payne game.
Of course, they could just both be awesome and all my fears may be for nothing. Here’s hoping.

Bonobo, if you played the open beta you would know that D3 is vastly different from D2. This has tons of fanboys raging, but personally I am 100% happy with all the changes they’ve made. They have actually gotten rid of everything I hated about the first 2 Diablos. Haters gonna hate, but this will be the best Diablo yet.
