Friday Flame Wars: Torchlight 2 vs. Diablo 3

Now that Torchlight 2 has been released and we’ve all got our mitts on it, the gaming community can finally settle, once and for all, whether it is superior to Diablo 3.

When D3 launched and failed to live up to expectations, many in the community looked to Torchlight 2 to be ARPG sequel they were looking for. But with all the hype shifting to TL2, can it live up to this messiah-like reputation we’ve given it?

See James’ Torchlight 2 adventures and more on the Game Front Youtube Channel.

If you’ve read my reviews of Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, you know in which direction I’m leaning on the matter. But let’s hear what you have to say. Do you still stand by Diablo 3? Is Torchlight 2 all you wanted it to be?

I must prefer Diablo 3 to Torchlight 2. Both are fun, but I enjoy Diablo 3 more overall.

so far torchlight 2 is way better, right off the start u get a challenge, in diablo 3 u had to wait until the *ucking inferno mod to finnally get a challenge but the challenge sucked badly, i already found more unick n set items then i found in all my times playing diablo 3, atleast u don t have to pay 200$ to get a ing item(even if i never paid i know some s did), atleast torchlight 2 was made to have fun, not to have money.

You would think a game like Torchlight 2 would only be good enough to fill the waiting for Diablo 3…
But for me it’s actually the opposite!…

Diablo 3 is an incompetent mess, compared to Torchlight 2… God I missed the Pet from Torchlight…
And the lack of map randomness was such a letdown (should I say lazyness from Blizzard?)…
And now that we can play ‘ARPG FPS’ with good games like Borderland / Borderland 2…

I’m willing to bet that both Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 will have the same longevity… Diablo 3 is more hardcore (and have a good fanboi base) while Torchlight 2 is more casual (and not overburdened by RMAH and Online-only bullsh!t)…

For me, Torchlight 2 is still too new, and I’ve not played enough to give it high praises, although so far I’m enjoying it… I’m still too much into Borderland right now…
But I can say this, I don’t regret buying Torchlight/Torchlight 2… And I do regret paying 60$ for Diablo 3, knowing what I know now…

Torchlight 2 because when Runic’s servers went down, I could still pay a game I own.

For me the question is simple. How often have I died in Torchlight 2 from lag? Never. Because it’s not being weighed down by a hideous cancerous growth (by which I mean the Real Money Auction House) that requires me to be always online!

Also for a loot driven game, Diablo 3 has some pretty pathetic loot compared with Torchlight 2, and you can go through the entire game twice and only find a single Unique item and it won’t even be very good.

Also, Torchlight 2 is only $20, compared to the $60 I payed for Diablo 3.
