Game Front Parties It Up At Nvidia’s GTX Meetup
In the popular imagination, PC gamers are a shy, reserved bunch. The scene at Wednesday’s Nvidia GTX certainly gave the lie to that stereotype. Maybe it was the open bar, or the close proximity of so much top-of-the-line PC hardware, but the assembled attendees were in a very festive mood, shouting and braying as free t-shirts rained down from the stage.
Downtown San Francisco nightclub Mezzanine was bathed in Nvidia’s trademark acid green, and gamers circulated, drinks in hand, settling down at various stations to try titles like DOTA 2, Diablo III, and The Secret World. Two particularly impressive three-monitor setups showed off Arkham City and Skyrim at comically high resolutions, running on Nvidia’s immensely powerful new card.
Standing in front of a large video screen in one corner, Nvidia rep Brian Burke narrated tech demos that were first made public in this leaked 680 launch video. Epic Games VP Mark Rein made a cameo appearance to present his company’s stunning Samaritan tech demo (which runs on a single GTX 680) before speeding off in a hired Town Car.
Plied with booze and delicious chicken mole tacos, guests were in high spirits throughout, but excitement reached a fever pitch when it was time to raffle off 680′s. The envy felt towards the lucky winner was palpable, though maybe it was the lighting that made people feel green.
Other attractions included a photo booth and a merch booth. Check out our gallery below for some shots of the event.
