Game Front Podcast #13: Apathy, Kickstarter, Gaming Doomed?
Despite the usual severe slowing-down of video game news this time of year, this week still gave us lots to talk about. And you’re in luck, because we did just that on the latest Game Front Podcast.
First we get into the furor raised by an alarmist article published earlier this week on Cracked. Purporting to explain why the video gaming industry is doomed, the article also lobbed some rather disturbing accusations against journalists who cover gaming, and we take (some) issue with that. Then we take a look at the bloated corpus of Kickstarter and try to figure out if the once-white hot crowdsourcing service is now in decline. Finally, with Battlefield 4 finally beginning to work, somewhat, we dig into the casual apathy so often on display when talk about problems in gaming – particularly when talking about the increasing number of tremendously botched game launches.
To bone up, have a look at Phil Hornshaw’s excellent explanation of game reviewing: Behind the Curtain: How Game Reviews Work.
