Game Front Podcast #14: Early Access, Walking Dead, Steam Sale

It’s our last podcast before the holidays, so we figured that Podcast No. 14 would best be spent talking about games we think you should snag during the Steam Holiday Sale.

But of course, we couldn’t just sit around, talking about awesome games at great prices, or about the holiday ass-kicking our wallets were going to get because of it. We also had to rant and rave about a few other things: for a start, Steam Early Access, a system that has a few of us a bit worried. While Early Access is a very cool thing for helping games get made, like crowdfunding, it also invites abuse at the expense of players.

We also talk about a game that’s sure to have a big impact on 2014, if for no other reason than its history: The Walking Dead Season 2, Telltale Games’ follow-up to our 2012 Game of the Year. Players take on the role of Clementine, their former ward, and the first episode is — in a word — intense. Don’t worry, we’re spoiler-free.

You’re right about game of the year, it’s really hard to choose this year, there’s co clear winner. I think for me, it’s either going to be Gone Home, Outlast or Amnesia: AMFP, because they’re all something special, not just the average shooter.
