GameFront Network Mod Update – May 18

GameFront houses over 60 network sites dedicated to hosting game files and has amassed a talented modding community over the years. These network sites can be accessed through the pulldown in the top banner on the GameFront home page.

Here are some popular files we’ve pulled from the archives:

2010: Starfleet Command 3 Upgrade Mod

This mod was developed as an expansion to Star Trek: Starfleet Command 3. As you would expect from an official expansion pack, it includes new conquest mode missions, new ships (almost all of which are canon and not fan-made kitbashes), faster gameplay and a 7 race map for conquest mode.

Game balance is mostly untouched, except that large slow ships will have a better chance of hitting smaller, faster ships in order to alleviate the issue of two or three frigates defeating a battleship by circling it.

2007: Battle for Middle-Earth 2 Mod: Special Extended Edition

This mod for Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth 2 builds and improves upon the original game in almost every way imaginable. More effects, AI behavior adjustments, more variety in the Hard AI’s purchase order, refurbished archers, changes to wall damage mechanics, horde movement behavior adjustments, horse mounting fixes, realistic melee attack range changes to hero units…

That’s just a fraction of what this mod offers. The only way to truly appreciate the magnitude of the improvements is to check them out yourself.

2006: Total Battlefield 2 Map Pack 3

This is one of the most popular map packs for Battlefield 2. Made by the same team who created the first two Total Battlefield 2 Map Packs, this pack is made up of six tested and tweaked custom maps made by the community:

  • Insurgency on Alcatraz: Mercenaries have overtaken Alcatraz; a US strike force is sent to take them out.
  • Codename Valhalla: US special forces must take out a Chinese biological weapons factory before Chinese reinforcements arrive.
  • Operation Power Failure: US troops attack a MEC power station in the Near East to disturb the armaments industry.
  • Operation Yellow Dragon: US forces must take out a Chinese chemical weapon storage facility.
  • Bocage 2005: A US strike force is sent to eliminate terrorists in the Bocage region.
  • A.T.O.M: US special forces must infiltrate a Chinese bunker to bring back a Chinese commander, dead or alive.

2006: San Andreas Mod Installer

Here’s an application that makes running Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas mods easier than ever.

The San Andreas Mod Installer, known as Sami, for short, allows you to install mods and custom vehicles without having to edit the game files yourself. Sami does all the work for you.

With a simple San Andreas-themed user interface, Sami automatically detects the game’s installation directory, backs up all existing files before installing a mod, and can extract mods out of ZIP or RAR archives.

2002:Bridge Commander Mod Packager

If you’re new to the Star Trek: Bridge Commander mod scene, then this a must-have application. The Bridge Commander Mod Packager is essential to installing custom content and mods, allowing you to create or extract mod files and even helping you pinpoint incorrect file names and folders.

If you’re a modder — novice or veteran — join the community and contribute your creations. If you’re not, then browse around to find great mods for your favorite games. Just use the pulldown in the top banner of this page.
