GameFront Network Mod Update — July 13

GameFront houses over 60 network sites dedicated to hosting game files and has amassed a talented modding community over the years. These network sites can be accessed through the pulldown in the top banner on the GameFront home page.

Apart from being a hub for top-quality mods for recent games, the network sites host old classics. Maybe you’re new to the modding community. Maybe you just picked up an old game from the bargain bin. Or maybe you’ve played some of these old mods and think it’s time to reinstall them for nostalgia’s sake.

Whatever your case may be, here are some popular files we’ve pulled from the archives. There’s no expiry date on fun.

June 2011: Falleen Female

Here’s a female Falleen skin for Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Included are custom sounds, red and blue variations for team colors, a siege skin in addition to the default, and choices to mix and match parts in the character selection menu.

June 2011: Old Rebel Base V3

Here’s a change from the often-seen imperial bases: the third iteration of a user-made map for Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy titled Old Rebel Base. It features custom textures, and differs from the second version in the following ways:

- It’s bigger. Bigger is better, right?
- The lighting has been improved — though one play tester believes it can be improved further.
- It now features a cargo room and two hangars: an empty one, and one that houses X-Wing fighters.

March 2011: Intrepid Class/USS Voyager

As I looked at the screenshots of this custom ship model for Armada 2, the Voyager theme song cruised into my mind at Warp 3. The level of detail is exquisite, and the faithfulness to the TV show cannon is impressive. At a quick glance, this could pass as the actual model used in the CGI.

This mod includes both a USS Voyager hero ship and a generic Intrepid if you feel there can only be one Voyager. Although, to be fair, even the TV show included more than one Voyager, what with the alternate timelines and weird aliens-of-the-week.

January 2011: Newbiemodders Korriban Expansion

This Knights of the Old Republic 2 mod adds more content to the Sith world of Korriban. New areas, new tombs, and a secret academy wait to be explored by the player — and new enemies lie in ambush. Familiar faces will appear — both friends and foes.

The plot keeps with the overall theme of the game and provides players with light or dark side choices to make. Re-skinned areas are almost indistinguishable from genuinely new ones, and this mod also comes with full voice-overs for the new characters.

April 2010: Silent Frontline

This mod for Fallout 3 includes new adventures that expand upon the storyline of Mothership Zeta, the game’s fifth add-on. Without giving you any spoilers, a group of Army Special Forces led by a cryogenically aged navy general form the Silent Frontline and ally themselves with the Brotherhood of Steel with the united purposes of rebuilding the United States and its military system — a move that stirs the Enclave to war.
