Gamer Builds Nuclear Reactor in Home; Draws FBI's Attention

There are some things individuals should not have in their homes; grizzly bears for example. But apparently that thought didn’t cross one man’s mind, as he attempted to build a small nuclear reactor in his house. As an unemployed computer programmer, he had plenty of spare time to redesign video games and channel his interest in radiation. But when he blogged about possessing uranium and doubling the radiation levels around his home, someone alerted the authorities. The FBI showed up unannounced to investigate, but found no cause for alarm. They did however take away his experiment at his parents’ request. The man was very adamant that he had done nothing wrong:

“People do it in universities all the time,” he said. “It’s just not usual that somebody does it outside of a university.”

Didn’t Back to the Future teach us anything about messing with radioactive materials for our own science projects? You’re just either going to get arrested by the FBI or shot by Libyans. Even if you live, you just end up stuck in some bizarre time period where you’re roped into making out with your own mother.
