The consensus is in: we don’t need to push a button to talk when playing Halo.
Xbox360 Fanboy has a petition for Bungie to add the chat feature for Halo 3, and of the comments it’s received so far, nearly all of them have been supportive.
There were a few naysayers who thought that listening to people breathing wasn’t going to make the game more fun. All I can say to that is “mic sensitivity.”
Two things from this: 1. My favorite quote from the article – “Not having any way to chat it up with other players sucks worse than Halo 2‘s Needler.” Way to throw out a good dis, Dustin. Bungie got told.
2. About the comments people make – Definitely does not contain an ‘a’ anywhere in the word. Remember this, children.
If you enjoyed this, consider posting a comment or share this with your friends.

Sounds like you virtual soldiers cant adapt. Pushing the button adds another level of reality during the battle. Now we can have machine gun fire blasting out of our surround sound without clicking the annoying (and painful) button that is on the head set. When its calm and quit its easier to pass on information. This is my opinion and I hope to continue to enjoy having loud sound and communication.

i agree, having a button on the controller is easier than having it on the headset
but open chat would be nice, because forgetting to press the button when you are giving the team instructions in the midst of battle sucks.

well if you are too lazy to move your thumb a n inch or so go drink some bleach if your instructions are that imortant give them out before you attack maybe sitting in a back corner or throw the bubble shield out for gods sakes and if you are giving away a position like “sniper near bubble shield” the other team can hear that they know where their own sniper is

Yeah that was the most anoying thing in the Beta …I would be in the middle of a fight and I needed to call out for help but I had to manuvor my hands where I could be able to keep my fingers on the right controls …Yes! definetly change that! …Gears of War is a good example of that kind of chat working for the good of the team.

Everyone of my own responses? The hell are you talking about? If you mean that everyone is against the idea of the open chat, read more carefully.
And my own material? Do you mean go out and make my own news?
Blogging IS news.

I love Halo but my friends just like it. To be more precise, they just like gaming. They’ve got Xbox Live mainly to have something to do while group voice chatting. They don’t really care what game we’re playing while chatting, as long as it isn’t Halo 2 because of having to press the white button. If open voice chat isn’t among the options in Halo 3, then they won’t buy it. Microsoft, if you wan’t to appeal to casual gamers give them the OPTION to play the game in their own casual way

To Microsoft, if you want to appeal to casual gamers too then at least give them the OPTION to play the game in their own casual way

I still like my loud gunfire. If you get good speakers you can hear what you cant see and maybe you wont have to “call out for help so much”. At least try it before you pull your platoon into an ambush. For some reason I cant turn my speakers down to talk. On such games as Call of Duty 3, I gave up my stratigic chat for good sound. IT WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER PLAYER. And no offense, that is what is asked of you on Halo.

Am I the only one who thinks H2′s proximity-based chat was one of the most creative uses of the headset in the last generation? Listening in on enemy plans: priceless. I’m shocked that this groundbreaking technology hasn’t even been imitated yet in this generation.
