GamersGate to Honor Erroneous Holiday Sale Deals, Offer Discounts
When GamersGate kicked off their holiday sale on Decmber 21, they couldn’t have been expecting what was about to happen. To their horror, they found that their computers had priced games far below cost (specifically a Borderlands 2 four-pack for $5.63 and a Bethesda pack containing Dishonored, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, Oblivion, Brink, Rage, Doom 3 and Hunted and Rogue Warrior for $26), and people were ordering them in droves. In their own words:
We made a mistake. Our computer program grossly multiplied the discounts we were authorized to offer on these bundles and they were advertised at way below cost. We did not notice this on the day of the mistake because of the holidays.
Once they discovered the error, they quickly moved to fix it. Orders that had not been fulfilled were canceled and refunded, while orders that had been fulfilled (or partially fulfilled) were left in limbo. GamersGate said that they were “working with the affected publishers to see what we can do with respect to partially filled orders.”
They’ve now announced a resolution, and it should make gamers happy.
For those who accessed at least one serial key, GamersGate will be honoring the advertised price. They don’t have all the keys yet, but you will be getting your games.
If you haven’t managed to access any of the games, GamersGate says that they, “were not able to complete your order due to technical difficulties,” and have reversed your payment. But, as a way of easing the pain, they’re giving anyone who falls into this category a 20% discount on any purchases made on their site through December 31, 2013.
That’s not a bad deal at all. While it’s certainly not the games that people tried to buy, they are getting a nice discount that they can use all year long. Kudos to GamersGate for making good on this issue.
