Gamer.TV Heavenly Sword Special Episode

Gamer.TV had an entire episode dedicated to Ninja Theory’s upcoming highly-anticipated PS3 title, Heavenly Sword. The special episode aired last night in the UK on Bravo. For those of you in the US who didn’t get to see it, I present to you the entire episode for your viewing pleasure.

The episode is chock full of developer interviews, exclusive first-hand looks at the game, and behind the scenes looks at the games development process. If there was ever anything you weren’t too clear about Heavenly Sword, this is the show that will make everything clear to you.

The rest of the episode follows after the break

Heh, funny, cause I watched the repeat of it this morning.

Honestly, I cannot see what the fuss is about. Graphics as shiny as the sun…errr, that looks to be it. I laughed when they said “it’s not a simple button basher”. Well, clearly, it is. The combat system looks to be a jumped-up rock-paper-scissors game worked into a few buttons and the story is yer average retribution. Will it be fun? Probably. Will it bring anything new to the table? Doubtful. Will it live on? Give it a few months, then it will fade away.

I could of course be entirely wrong, but there was nothing truly wow about it. And the SIXAXIS control of the projectile’s was just silly. For a game that is supposed to be ‘a pure combat game’ you’d think they’d want to take in physics, not throw it upside down.

Heavenly Sword isn’t a “simple” button masher because the devs have developed different stances that allow for you to perform different types of attacks. But either way you slice it, it still is a button masher, but not as simple as God Of War or Devil May Cry.

I know you have the three different stances, but as I said, it’s a jumped up version of rock-paper-scissors. I’m willing to bet anyone who is a couple of hours into it can master the system so quickly they’ll be able to flick between it at super speeds, like a button basher. I still think it will be a good game, but I think it’ll only be an A game, not an AAA like the PS3 seems to need (and the Wii, for that matter).
