How to update the reshade and sweetfx.
Requires newest version of this mod be pre-installed before the update.
Download and install the updated reshade. Install over top of this mod in the game folder for it to update the required files.
- Download and run the ReShade Setup.exe
- Click Select Game and Direct it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\Doom3BFG.exe
Select rendering API - click the OpenGL and tell it to overwrite the existing installation if asked.
Say Yes to overwrite.
Say No to installing reshade shaders.
Once finished close the installer bar.
Open the game folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\
- Delete the reshade.fx. This is the old one and is not needed as the effects will still be coming from the sweet.fx and sweetfx settings file once completed.
*You can leave the reshade.fx in and it will load with the sweetfx but it will alter the game saturation, check ingame and if you decide to leave it disabled just delete it as it is the old reshade.fx and is not required.
Although if kept, it does provide a second layer of the sweetfx settings over the initial layer, further increasing definition and the other effects. The original reshade.fx applies the sweetfx settings from the SweetFX_settings.txt, basically overlapping the same effects twice.
In order to correct the over-saturation issue, alter the HDR settings in the SweetFX_settings.txt, remember that any change is applied twice, one layer on top of the other, so settings are doubled, make changes at +/- .05 increments. Most bleed over & saturation comes from the radius setting under HDR whereas the other is game brightness.
Start The Game To setup ingame file.
Once the game is running you will see the new reshade running also. Press Shift+F2 to bring up the settings in order to create the ingame setup file.
Click the + next to the address bar in the upper right, it will popup a small bar asking for a name. Call it doombfg and press enter. The address bar should now list the newly created file and in the area below the Sweetfx [sweet.fx] (& SweetFX [Reshade.fx] if not deleted) should be listed and checked with it's toggle key listed. Finish setup, then alter toggle key as scroll lock does not seem to work.
Change toggle to pausebreak. Click toggle box, press pausebreak (toggle should change to pause). Close with x in corner using mouse to keep toggle setting.
If you choose to disable the reshade.fx as it can cause over saturation, you can delete it from the game folder as it is not required for the sweetfx to work, being as it is the older reshade.fx.
The original reshade.fx applies the sweetfx settings from the sweetfx_settings file, basically overlapping the same effects twice.
Click the x in the far right corner to close. Your reshade and sweetfx is now updated and should allow for a more stable game.
Any changes for the effects are to be made through the \DOOM 3 BFG Edition\sweetfx\SweetFX_settings.txt.
This adds post processing effects. It adds SMAA, FXAA, HDR, LUMASHARPEN, LIFTGAMMAGAIN, VIBRANCE and CURVES. DSR/VSR setup. It also adds detail, shading and lighting, while enhancing colors but not altering the base colors of the game.
This can be used in combination with any DLC, texture packs, mods or add-ons.
To make adjustments to Sweetfx, go to \sweetfx folder and alter the SweetFX_settings.txt file.
Alter settings as you like.
Using the Printscreen, will generate ingame screenshots.
They can be found placed in the game folder, where the files were placed.
Use FastStone Image Viewer, to convert them to jpg or other formats.
