GameStop Listings Suggest November Launch For Wii U

Nintendo wouldn’t confirm a release date (or indeed, anything remotely substantial) when they gave Wii U a proper, playable debut at E3 2012. But the speculation has always been that Wii U will be the console that kicks off the 8th generation, and that it will do so well in advance of Microsoft and Sony. That would mean Holidays, 2012, since everyone also speculates that Holidays 2013 will see Sony and Microsoft’s new devices. Everything I just wrote is based on nothing more than unsourced speculation, but if a leaked GameStop listing reported by The Verge turns out to be real, then the speculation was right on the money.

The listing, seen at the top of this post, shows the planned release schedule for the consoles first titles, and it seems to put Wii U at a November 14, 2012 release. Make of that what you will however, because as you can see, the slate is very poor. Nothing but repurposed current gen titles and a few weaksauce games like Tank! Tank! Tank!. The only two arguable new AAA titles for the system are Pikmin 3 and New Super Mario Bros. U, but I can’t say any of us are exactly clamoring for them, can I?

So, now would be the time to speculate further. Will Wii U be hideously overpriced? Will it launch too soon and kill Nintendo? Will any of us even buy it? Sound off in comments.
