The guys over at Eurogamer are reporting that GSC’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is being offered for free through the GameTap on-demand service. Exclusively during this week, PC gamers can check out the RPG-slash-FPS, albeit with a catch: this version of the game is unable to use any mods.
While I cannot comment on the greater awesomeness of the game with its “must have” mods (I beat the game pre-mods, early patch, chock-full-o-bugs and still enjoyed it), I do highly recommend anyone looking for an atmospheric first person shooter with a touch of RPG elements to check this game out. At the very least, you’re getting a full game demo here.
Those interested only need sign-up for the free GameTap client at the website to begin the download procedure.
Also worth noting is that GameTap is currently offering Descent: Freespace, Deus Ex, Hitman: Blood Money and Psychonauts for free.
