Gaming Today Impressions Of NFL Tour (360)
I had low expectations coming into this game, which was really a good thing. For the most part, my belief that this would be a boring game was right. It’s amazing how well my Jedi abilities work sometimes. I have been a fan of NFL Street for many years, and it looks like EA was trying to do something special with the franchise and they ended up ruining all the fun.
I’m a huge fan of arcade style football when it delivers over-the-top action that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final whistle blows. Unfortunately, there’s nothing over-the-top about NFL Tour. The game basically combined Madden with NFL Street and then watered the entire thing down. The stadiums look great and there are some interesting special effects such as fantastic looking fireworks. The most annoying effect is the Matrix-like slow motion that occurs during tackles on 80% of the plays. Unfortunately, the gameplay is just way too simple. The game is so simple to play that a monkey could easily score a touchdown on the lacking AI defense of the computer. If you want to win games in NFL Tour, just snap the ball and pass to anyone. Don’t worry… unless you are terrible, there is no such thing as an incomplete pass. I put in about 6 hours of gameplay and my QB accuracy is 100%.
Unbalanced AI, controls that are too simple and the lack of anything special have certainly left me with an extremely low opinion of this title. The only aspect of the game that is even slightly appealing is multiplayer. At least when you are playing against other living organisms, the game has a bit of a challenge to it. If EA plans to keep NFL Tour going, they need to go back to the drawing board soon for next year’s release if there is one. EA really screwed the pooch with this one.
