Garry’s Mod Earned $22 Million Since Its Release

You can do a lot of creative things with Garry’s Mod. Originally designed as a mod for Half-Life 2, Garry’s Mod allowed players to create scenes and mess around with the physics of the Source Engine. Gamers have used it as an unscripted program to create machinima (video game movies) and take amusing screenshots, while others have used the sandbox capabilities of Garry’s Mod as a tool for online role-playing.

Needless to say, you can do a lot with Garry’s Mod, and it comes as no surprise it has been heavily profitable for its creator, Garry Newman.

In response to a letter from a fan, Newman stated that Garry’s Mod has earned over $22 million.

“Over 7 years GMod has made about 22 million dollars,” he wrote. “We get less than half of that though. Then the tax man gets a bunch of that. Then when we take money out of the company the tax man gets a bunch of that too.”

Regardless of how much money they’ve given up in the translation, it goes without saying that Garry’s Mod has made a tidy profit.

Although Garry’s Mod is now a commercial product, you can still download the free version of Garry’s Mod right here.
